Biomechanical Testing

Uniaxial tensile testing

Our laboratory houses a Zwick/Roell Allround Line 20 kN uniaxial material testing machine, equipped with a variety of load cells, ranging between 10 N and 20 kN. This is suitable for most testing scenarios from the micro to the macro scale, i.e. fibres to implants. Both the device and the lab are set up to test fresh or embalmed biological tissues. The following testing scenarios are used on a frequent basis:

  • Compression

  • Tension (including partial plastination of soft tissues)

  • Three- and four-point bending

  • Complex testing scenarios resulting in multiaxial deformation, e.g. research on spine, pelvis or hip joint, with customised frames and fixtures
